10 “Todays” for Living Life Today

1. TODAY I WILL NOT STRIKE BACK:
If someone is rude, if someone is impatient, if someone is unkind....I
will  not respond in a like manner.

2. TODAY I WILL ASK GOD TO BLESS MY "ENEMY":
If I come across someone who treats me harshly or unfairly, I will
quietly ask GOD to bless that individual.  I understand the "enemy"
could be a family  member, neighbor,  co-worker or stranger.

3. TODAY I WILL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY:
I will carefully choose and guard my words being certain that I do not
spread gossip.

4. TODAY I WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE:
I will find ways to help share the burden of another person.

5. TODAY I WILL FORGIVE:
I will forgive any hurts or injuries that come my way.

6. TODAY I WILL DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE, AND I WILL DO IT SECRETLY:
I will reach out anonymously and bless the life of another.

7. TODAY I WILL TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WISH TO BE TREATED:
I will practice the golden rule- “do unto others as I would have them
do unto you”-with everyone I encounter.

8. TODAY I WILL RAISE THE SPIRITS OF SOMEONE WHO IS DISCOURAGED:
My smile, my words, my expression of support, can make the difference to someone who is wrestling with life.

9. TODAY I WILL NURTURE MY BODY:
I will only as much my body needs;  I will eat only healthy foods.  I will thank GOD for my body.

10. TODAY I WILL GROW SPIRITUALLY:
I will spend a little more time in prayer today, I will begin reading
something spiritual or inspirational today, I will find a quiet
place and listen to God’s voice, and today I will rejoice in His presence.

"But since we belong to the day, let us be self controlled, putting on
faith and love as a breastplate, and hope of salvation as a helmet."
I Thessalonians 5:8

Standing with Israel Now and Forever

Do you ever wonder if we are really close to what the Bible describes as the end times? The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies many which have been fulfilled and some still to be fulfilled. When you look at these prophecies you will discover that God not only tells us of things to come, but He tells us how to live in light of things to come!

Here’s the big idea to understand .. .. Bible prophecy is not a prediction of the future, but rather a promise about the future!

The story of Israel begins in the book of Genesis. The Almighty God of heaven and earth makes a binding covenant with Abraham, who will be the father of the Jewish nation.

The provisions of that covenant are recorded in Genesis 12:1-3, “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family And from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Of all God’s covenant promises to Abraham, I believe the most amazing is His promise concerning the land. God told Abraham to leave his country, his family, his father’s house and "go to a land that I will show you."

God then led Abraham to the land that was to belong to his descendants forever. When the people of Israel were about to enter the land of promise, Moses told them that a time was coming when their idolatry would cause them to be driven from the land.

Deuteronomy 4:27 says, “And the LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD will drive you.”

Israel had no excuse. Her people had been warned again and again that God was a jealous God and would not tolerate His people worshipping false gods.

The Jews were scattered by the Assyrians and by the Babylonians, and then after a time of exile God restored them to the land. But then in 70 AD, as Jesus himself foretold, Israel, as a nation, ceased to exist after the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.

After the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans, the dispersion increase and the Jews were scattered like chaff in the wind to the four corners of the earth. Yet in spite of all of this, God chose the Jews and His promises would still be true.  He gave them a land; he made them an irrevocable promise . . . a binding covenant!

Ezekiel 36:24 says, “For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.”

Understand this: In Biblical prophecy, . . . Israel is God’s time clock. All of the end time prophecies, in both the Old Testament and New Testament, require Israel to be back in the land. The fulfillment and execution of these prophecies was set into motion on May 14, 1948. It was the rebirth of the nation of Israel.

To grasp and comprehend what an incredible act of God this was you have to understand that never before in human history had such a dispersed and decimated people not only retained their identity for almost twenty centuries but reestablished their nation in their original homeland.

No people have ever endured more suffering over the centuries than exiled Jews. The persecution they have endured is unimaginable! Just think about the last century. The Holocaust brought about the extermination of 1/3 of the world–wide Jewish population during that time.

Through a series of supernatural events, on May 14th 1948, Jewish leader David Ben-Gurion gathered, with over four hundred Jewish religious and political leaders, from all over the world, and at exactly four o’ clock in the afternoon stepped to the podium of a white concrete building on Rothschild Blvd. in Tel Aviv, called the meeting to order and read the declaration of Israel’s Statehood.

At the same time, 6000 miles away, President Truman (with only one of his trusted counselors approving) sat in the Oval office reading his statement, for immediate release to the world declaring that the United States of America officially recognized birth of the modern nation of Israel. In that moment, not only was history being made, but the key event of all Biblical prophecy was being fulfilled!

A Biblical prophecy scholar, said, “The restoration of Israel is God’s “super-sign” of the end times.”

Another prophecy scholar said, “Without the existence of the nation of Israel, we would not be able to say with certainty that we are in the last days. That single event, more than any other, is the most prominent sign that we are living in the final moments before the coming of Jesus! The Hebrew people have been called God’s timepiece of the ages.”

As incredible as this rebirth of Israel, as a nation, has been, it is only the beginning. The most dramatic events of Biblical prophecy concerning Israel lie ahead. To this day the issue of who controls the Promised Land is the most volatile in international politics.

Israel is a tiny nation about the size, (land mass) of Rhode Island, and is surrounded by a sea of 300 million enemies, many who have vowed to see Israel driven in the sea or wiped off the face of the earth.

Zechariah 12: 1-3 says, “The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.”

But God Himself, promises to be Israel’s defender.

Zechariah 12: 8-10 says, “In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.”

These prophecies are not vague like Nostradamus or modern day 'so-called' psychics. They are detailed and specific in their application.

Time and space does not permit me to go into the many other prophecies concerning the nation of Israel. Yet such things as a false peace, the rebuilding of the third Jewish temple, and a coming great persecution of the Jewish people under a world leader, have all been prophesied.

It will all take place because God has said it.

Stand in prayer:

Psalm 122:6 says, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:  "May those who love you be secure.”

Stand in influence and support:

Genesis 12:3 says, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Stand politically as a nation:

Zechariah 12:8-9 says, “In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the LORD before them. It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”

Be alert to what is going on.

It is prophecy being fulfilled!

Isaiah 46:9-10 says. “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”

WE - THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, MUST STAND WITH ISRAEL.

Third blog from the Holy Land

Hello to all that reads this,

Went to Nazareth this morning – This is where Mary’s (Jesus’ mother) Well is. They have built a church around the well. We went into the service as it was Sunday for us.

Pretty awesome to walk where Jesus was raised as a boy. This is where Jesus read from Isaiah then said this has been fulfilled in your eyes today and they did not get it. They missed the Lord. (I pray that when the Lord speaks to you, you will not miss it like Nazareth did)

We went to Mount precipice or cliff where Jesus was ministering and the crowd pressed (religious leaders) to push him off and He walked right through them.

Read Luke 4:14-30

As we were going through Nazareth we went by the place where Jesus performed His first miracle of turning water into wine. Read John 2

Left Nazareth and went to Kfar Kedem – This is a Kibbutz that is middle class and modern. They have an event that takes about 3 hours to go through. It gives you the life style of how Israel lived 2000 years ago. (clothing and food) Took Cindy on a donkey ride maybe like Mother Mary had 2000 years ago. This Kibbutz brings school children there so they can experience what it was to be Jewish 2000 years ago.  At there little farm, Cindy and I held a baby sheep around my neck like a shepherd would have done.

When we left the kibbutz we went by the mountain called “Horns of Hittim” This place was where the crusaders had their greatest battle. The movie “The Kingdom of Heaven” was about this battle.

Then we went by what is called the Mount of Transfiguration. (Talk about mind and spirit overload)

Read Luke 9:27-36 and Mark 9:2-13

We ended the day with going to a GREAT site: Ein Harod (Gideon’s Spring)

From biblical times to recent history this one spot has been a place where armies gathered prior to battle, where great battles were fought, and where an army in the making, trained.

The Spring of Harod flows from Gideon's Cave. This is the place where Gideon gathered his men before fighting the Midianites. Judges 7:1 describes the scene. Wow, what a GREAT site.  That’s it for this blog.  More later.

First Israel blog

Just flying Toronto to Tel-Aviv I felt a deep sense of peace in my spirit and soul.  The reality that we would soon be putting our feet on God's
chosen soil seemed sorrel.

My heart was overwhelmed by the generous sacrificial giving that our Bethel Church family so graciously blessed us with enabling us to experience first hand the Holy Land.

It was even on the flight that I began to feel something different in my spirit.  There was a new revelation of God's Word and a "special feel" in my spirit about the presence of God.

Thursday after landing in Israel we went to the seaport of Joppa. I will share more when we speak to you June 12th. Remember in Acts 10 where Cornelius has a word from God and he calls for Peter? Well Peter is in Joppa having a vision from the Lord about changes to his ministry and his theology.  The Lord spoke a few things to my heart concerning Joppa, Cornelius and Peter.  Joppa is also a very special place for Jonah, look it up and read it.

Today, Friday we went to Caesarea.  This is where Cornelius had this word from the Lord and sought out Peter when he was in Joppa. Also in Caesarea, we saw the place that Herod the Great built and where Pontius Pilate lived, it was completely amazing.  From there we went to Mt. Carmel where Elijah called the prophets of Baal to come and he called down fire from heaven to consume the altar.  Then Elijah prayed until there was a small cloud coming from the sea and he girded up his loins and out ran Ahab's chariot (short version).  This was a moving experience.  So many times Cindy and I have preached messages from this part of the Bible - when you see nothing - there is a God Who will send miracles.  Being persistent and seeing God's hand even in the small things of life.  To be where this event took place touched
our spirits - for intercession and for more of His power.

We moved on to Megiddo where Solomon built one of his temples.  We also went through the valley where Armageddon will be fought.  Then on to the Sea of Galilee.  It is so good, we can connect the dots from this sight to that sight, and what happened where and when.

We will end for blog with this.  On our way up to the top of Mt. Carmel we looked out the window and it was like going back in time to our Sunday School classes and seeing the flannel graph board as the teacher would put up a backdrop for a story.  Trees with rocks around - this is exactly how it looks.  Wow!!! Much to share but want to keep some for the Sunday we are back with you.

Love,
Pastors Brian and Cindy

Happy Mother’s Day and Week!

Let’s give it up for our moms! We want to honor our moms this week. I have to share this with you.

This is the best definition of a mother. I heard it a few years ago from Tony Campolo, he was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, author of over 30 books, sociologist, and public speaker known for challenging evangelical Christians by illustrating how their faith can offer solutions in a world of complexity.

Campolo said: “Too many women are made to feel that they should apologize for being mothers or housewives. In reality, such roles can be noble callings. When I was on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania… there were gatherings from time to time to which faculty members brought their spouses. Inevitably some woman doctor or sociologist would confront my wife with the question, 'And what is it that you do, my dear?' My wife, who has given her life to raise our two sons and who by the way is one of the most brilliantly articulate individuals I know, had a great response. She would say: 'I am socializing two homo-sapiens in the dominant values of the Judeo-Christian tradition in order that they might be instruments for the transformation of the social order into the teleologically prescribed utopia inherent in the Eschaton. What do you do?'"

Here’s a thought; In the New Testament, every indicative (a statement of fact) implies an imperative (a command). Paul exhorts his readers by saying, "Be what you are. You are in Christ, you are temples of the Spirit, you are dead to sin and raised to new life; therefore act in accord with this truth." If our children are "kings and priests," we as parents are responsible to train them by teaching, discipline, and example to become mature kings and priests. We are to train them to become what they already are.

This provides a structure for our efforts as parents.

So, we honor our Mothers in (May) and we honor our Fathers in (June). Wow, what a job you have.

Final though:

According to Exodus 17:16, the Lord declared an inter-generational war against the Amalekites because of their cruelty to Israel when they left Egypt. Though the chief warfare in the New Covenant is carried out with the Spiritual weapon of the gospel (2 Corinthians 10:1-6), our warfare is still waged, as it was in the Old Covenant, from generation to generation. By raising up a new generation of "priests and kings to God," we participate in Christ’s war of conquest, looking in hope for the day when all His enemies will be placed beneath His feet (1 Corinthians 15:25).

Out of the shaker and onto the plate!

It is a new day!!

Colossians 4:2-6

Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude. Don't forget to pray for us, that God will open doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I'm locked up in this jail. Pray that every time I open my mouth I'll be able to make Christ plain as day to them.
Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don't miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.

Of course I am NOT saying you should stay out of the church building. The Church building needs to be a filling station. You need to use all that God has given you out in the world. Every week we NEED to go to the House of God and get filled up.

Let's "make Christ plain as day" to the world.

So, What's Good About "Good Friday"?

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  ~Hebrews 10:19-25

I want to share with you some thoughts I read a few years ago.

One day on Calvary, my Savior gave it ALL!

Today is not an ordinary day. No, today almost 2000 years ago, one man was executed for a crime he did not commit. On the calendar it is recognized as “Good Friday,” but I started to think about this why do we call it Good Friday? There wasn’t anything good that happened on that day. On that day, Jesus Christ was brought before the crowds that He healed, He taught, He loved, and shared His life with. He never once pleaded His case, He simply took on the sins of the world. He stood there as a sinless man and took on every sin of men and women before Him and the ones who would come after Him. Then He was whipped, crowned with thorns, led up a hill, and hung on a cross. I haven’t seen anything good yet! In fact, the people of Jesus day were probably losing hope, not knowing that He was about to follow through on every prophecy in the Old Testament.

The Savior was going to come back to life in 3 days. This was the good news. The grave could not keep Him. Death could not stop Him. Hell could not take away the power within Him. In fact, the stone was rolled away that covered His grave. He shattered the bondage of death, so that we could know eternal life. He broke the power grip that satan tried to keep over our lives by taking on Hell for us. He overcame it all! He is our sustainer. In fact, “Good Friday” is known to have roots as being known as “God’s Day.” I don’t think you have to wonder why. God showed up. He came to the earth as a man to take on death and overcome it for all mankind.

In Hebrews we see that through Jesus Christ we have faith, hope, and love. May we learn to walk in all of these through this day and take this season as a time to celebrate what Christ has done!

1. FAITH

“…let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith…” (vs. 22)

Jesus has broken the barrier that stood between us and God. The curtain has been torn in two. We now have the freedom to come to God whenever we want because of Jesus’ death and resurrection on the cross. We need to rest assured that our full trust can be put in Jesus because He put it all on the line for us. He didn’t hold anything back! He gave it all!

2. HOPE

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” (vs. 23)

The Good News of hope promises a new relationship with Jesus, a friend who sticks closer than a brother, forgiveness, eternal right standing with God the Father, freedom from guilt and fear. God has given us our names written down in the Book of Life through the accepting of His Son Jesus Christ. We continue to have hope in Jesus because of the lasting words He gave us through every story in the Word of God. His Truth will not fail us, it will guide us and lead us to His everlasting arms in eternity.

3. LOVE

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” (vs. 24)

As we focus on the cross and all that Jesus has done for us, may we take the time to consider the love it took to get Him through it all. May we consider taking that love to all those who are around us, those who know Christ, and those who have yet to know of Him. This time of knowing Christ and remembering Him is a time to reflect on His great love. May we never take that love for granted, but continually remember to give it daily to those we come in contact with. God’s love is not something we can keep inside. It’s not ours to keep! Jesus died for the great love that we know, we should be stirred inwardly to share the love He inspired even to the man who was next to Him on the cross. He promised to bring this man into eternity. (Luke 23:32-43)

Be inspired by what you read in the Word of God and live it out daily. Jesus was a walking testimony that Faith, Hope, and Love can exist on a daily basis. He believed in it enough to die for it. Will you believe in it enough to live for it?

IN HARD TIMES, THERE IS A PLACE TO TURN

These are hard times in America. There seems to be so much heartache everywhere you turn. There is broad agreement our nation has lost its way and America is no longer "the shining light on the hill." We don't trust our leaders or believe national politicians care about the common good. Americans are uncertain about the future, in some cases depressed, angry, full of questions, unhappy and feeling like there is know where to turn, but there is; read on!

When times are hard, Americans have learned to call on our own past experiences as a nation for lessons in fortitude, courage and creativity.

Please hear this: The problem is NOT a Democrat or Republican, red state or blue state, rich or poor problem, it is a spiritual problem. There is a place to turn.

During the storms of life, please remember this about Eagles.

Eagles at storm time:

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?  The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it.

The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward God.

The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them.

God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm.

Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down; it is how we handle them.

The Bible says, "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles."  Isaiah 40:31

Remember this: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

St. Patty's Real Story

A little story I read. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, here is a little prelude-story on Saint Patrick himself.

At the age of 16, Saint Patrick was
captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland where he became a slave to the chieftain of Ulster. One night, after six years of slavery, Saint Patrick heard a voice, "Behold, thy ship is ready." He traveled two hundred miles on foot to a place where he knew no one and had never been. He wrote in his autobiographical account, "After this I took flight, and left the man with whom I had been six years; and I came in the strength of the Lord, who directed my way for good; and I feared nothing till I arrived at the ship. And on that same day on which I arrived, the ship moved out of its place."

Patrick made his way back to Britain, found his family, and could have lived out the rest of his life in relative comfort in the land of freedom. But in 432 AD, he had
another vision. He saw a man coming to him from Ireland carrying innumerable letters. "And I read the beginning of the letter containing 'The voice of the Irish." In addition, while I was reading aloud the beginning of the letters, I myself thought indeed in my mind that I heard the voice of those who were near the wood of Foclut, which is close by the Western Sea. And they cried out thus as if with one voice, "We entreat thee, holy youth, that thou come, and henceforth walk among us." And I was deeply moved in my heart, and could read no further; and so I woke."

Saint Patrick went back to Ireland as a
missionary. No outside religion had penetrated Ireland in a thousand years. Saint Patrick founded more than 300 churches and baptized more than 120,000 people. His ministry was so influential that he came to be known as the one who "found Ireland all heathen and left it all Christian."
